Julius Maibaum, born in 1985 in Marburg an der Lahn, studied Visual Communication at the Kunsthochschule Kassel. He moved to Berlin during his studies and realised his graduation film ‘Die Filmemacher’ in 2013. His feature film debut ‘Lotte’ celebrated its world premiere at the 2016 Berlinale (Perspektive Deutsches Kino section). The film was shown at numerous festivals, e.g. the Montreal World Film Festival, and won several awards, including ‘Best Film’ at the New Berlin Film Award. Shortly before the corona pandemic, shooting began on his second feature film ‘Monolith’, which was shown at several festivals in 2023 and again won the New Berlin Film Award for ‘Best Film’. Maibaum currently lives and works in Kassel and Hamburg on several projects. His current work includes two children's films set in his hometown of Marburg.
